No More Guesswork: A Faster Way to Check Drag Pressure
Drag pressure may seem like a small detail in the butt fusion process, but it plays an important role in setting the correct fusion pressure.
A standard analog gauge can certainly be used for this step. In practice, however, reading a moving needle can sometimes take a little more attention, especially when the operator needs to repeat the test and compare several results.
That is why FusingX FX Series butt fusion machines can be equipped with an optional digital pressure gauge. It gives the operator a clear numerical reading and makes drag pressure checks quicker and easier to follow.
Move the Carriage, Release the Button, Read the Pressure
The test itself is straightforward.
With the pipes already clamped in the machine, move the carriage forward and allow it to travel smoothly. Release the forward button before the pipe ends come into contact.
The value shown on the digital gauge is the pressure required to keep the carriage moving under the current site conditions. This is the drag pressure that should be taken into account when setting the fusion pressure.
Instead of judging the position of a needle, the operator can simply read the displayed value.
Repeat the Test to Confirm a Stable Reading
Drag pressure can be affected by several factors, including pipe weight, machine position, support conditions and carriage resistance.
For this reason, it is good practice to run the test more than once.
The digital gauge makes it easy to compare each reading. If the values remain close, the operator can be more confident that the result is stable. If they vary noticeably, the pipe supports, clamping condition or carriage movement should be checked before welding begins.
More Than a Clearer Display
The main benefit of a digital pressure gauge is not simply that numbers are easier to read than a needle.
It also makes repeated testing faster, helps the operator compare results more easily and reduces uncertainty during pressure setup.
For projects involving frequent size changes, different pipe weights or varying site conditions, this can be a practical upgrade to the standard machine configuration.
